Current Initiatives:

Trex Plastic Collection: all year

You can’t recycle plastic bags/film in your curbside bin, but you can at McKenzie! We have three collection bins: (1) at the front door, (2) by the gym/cafeteria door, and (3) near the garden/kindergarten blacktop.

We are participating in a program run by Trex, who transforms the plastic into composite decking. If the feeling of helping the planet isn’t enough, know that if we collect enough plastic, we earn a bench! (See kindergarten playground for the one we earned last year!

Want to help? Thank you! When the bins are full, we need to take the haul to Jewel (Linden & Greenbay) customer service. It’s a lot for one person to haul all year, but with some help, it will be a breeze! Please text Amanda Houde (contact info in directory) to coordinate!

Class Shirt Exchange: August 20-29

Give your old class shirt new life by passing it down to a younger cheetah! At the beginning of the year, we collect gently used class shirts that you are ready to part with and have them available for the new incoming class.

*Happening now! Drop-off/browse bin will be at the school front entrance 8/20-29, possibly longer.

Trinket Collection:  early October and early spring

Do you have a growing pile of fidgets, slinkies, erasers, stickers, etc. that you’d like to disappear? Bring them to McKenzie for reuse as classroom & event prizes! Look for a collection bin at the front door in early October. Please use discretion: clean items only

Greening Events:  Fall Frenzy, Field Day, etc.

Are you helping out with an event at McKenzie? Please help us to keep it green! Set up recycling and compost alongside the trash bins. Consider reducing decorations, disposables, and giveaways. People probably won’t miss them and you’ll save on expenses!

Earth Awareness Day/Week:  +/- April 22

Info TBD!
